Privacy Policy
1. Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign in, we collect your email address and, if you set one, a display name. Sign-in is passwordless (a one-time email link).
- Your preferences. Your favorite resorts and alert settings, so they sync across your devices.
- Community conditions reports. The reports, ratings, notes, and photos you submit. Photos are compressed in your browser before upload, which strips embedded location (EXIF) data.
- Interactions. Forecast-accuracy votes and "helpful" marks. To prevent duplicate voting, we store a one-way hashed version of your IP address, not the address itself.
- Payment information. If you subscribe to SnowBrains Premium, our payment processor (Stripe) collects and processes your payment details. We do not receive or store your full card number.
- Email subscriptions. If you sign up for powder or report alerts, we store your email address and the resorts you follow.
- Technical data. Basic technical information your browser sends automatically, such as device and browser type, used to operate and secure the Service.
2. How we use your information
We use your information to provide and improve the Service: to sign you in, sync your favorites, publish and moderate conditions reports, send the alerts you request, process Premium subscriptions, prevent abuse and duplicate voting, and keep the Service secure.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We have never done so.
3. Service providers we share with
We share limited information with trusted providers who process it only to perform services for us:
- Supabase — account authentication and storage of your profile, favorites, and reports.
- Stripe — payment processing for SnowBrains Premium.
- Resend — delivery of alert and confirmation emails.
- Netlify — website hosting and storage.
- Anthropic — AI features that generate forecast summaries and help moderate submitted reports. Report text may be sent for automated moderation; we avoid sending unnecessary personal information.
Our forecast and snow data come from public sources, including the U.S. National Weather Service, Environment Canada, and NRCS SNOTEL. We do not send your personal information to those sources.
4. Cookies and local storage
The Service uses your browser's local storage and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences and favorites, and cache data so pages load quickly. We do not use third-party advertising cookies on the weather app.
5. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Approved conditions reports may remain publicly visible as part of the community record. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations.
6. Your choices and rights
You can update your display name and favorites in your account, unsubscribe from alert emails using the link in any alert, and manage or cancel your Premium subscription through the billing portal. You may request access to or deletion of your personal information at any time by emailing privacy@snowbrains.com.
California residents. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to request access to or a copy of it, to request correction or deletion, and to opt out of any sale or sharing of your personal information. As stated above, we do not sell or share your personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. To make a request, email privacy@snowbrains.com; we may need to verify your identity before responding.
7. Where we process your information
SnowBrains LLC is based in the United States, and the providers we use to operate the Service store and process information in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., you understand your information will be processed here.
8. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and post the changes here.
